Hello, I’m hoping you might be able to help.
We have a solar setup which includes the Giv Energy inverter and battery, and an eddi switch. We also have a zappi charger. The original set up was for the solar to charge the battery and then any excess goes to the eddi and then the car charger, if plugged in. In the winter months we charge the battery from the grid overnight.
We had a new consumer unit/fuse box fitted on Monday by an electrician who didn’t fit the solar system. Since then the battery charged overnight as normal, but fully discharged when the hot water would normal come on around 5:30am. By 7am we had no battery power left. This never happened before.
We’ve noticed that the minor solar generation we are making is also going straight to the hot water eddi and not to the battery.
We are novices and worried about tweaking things and causing more problems. But we do want to get this fixed as the battery is becoming redundant at the moment. We have turned off overnight charging as it was just discharging to the eddi each morning.
Thank you in advance if you have any thoughts on this.

It sounds like the CT's have either not been replaced, or not been replaced correctly.
What do the energy flows look like in the MyEnergi app? If you put the kettle on, does the house use an extra 3 kW of electricity?

Hi thank you for your reply, so I’ve checked and took a photo of the app before starting the kettle and after. See attached. I’ve also added a photo from the Giv Energy app so you can see the solar is generating a marginal amount today but the eddi says it’s heating so think most of it is going there unless I use something in the house like the kettle.

The Eddi is only heating by half a kW which is not that different to the solar the Giv Energi app shows you are making.
Are you sure that the battery charged before the Eddi, before the consumer unit change?
Do you have an export margin set? It may be worth setting one, or increasing it slightly if it is already set.

Yes other than use in the house the battery would always fully charge from the solar first before sending any spare to the eddi.
I’ve managed to finally get hold of the installer and they think the CT has been set wrong after the fuse board change (by a different electrician). They are going to send someone out next week to check it all and hopefully resolve. Thank you so much for your replies though as this helped me to know what I was saying to the installer!

Ideally you need your second CT clamp connected to your Zappi / Eddi to monitor the solar inverter. That's one for the grid CT to measure the whole house's import and a second CT to measure the solar export (defined as a gen CT (don't use gen & battery)). Since you have a Zappi and an Eddi you've got two CTs as they're part of the installation package. You don't need two grid CTs - only one per Myenergi set-up as they all share the data (using WiFi or the 868/915MHz radio).
So take a look where your CTs are and where they're located. One should be on the live (brown) cable from the meter (with the arrow towards the consumer unit), one should be on the live (brown) cable from your solar inverter (with the arrow towards the consumer unit). It's easy to unclip them and turn them round it the arrow points the wrong way.
